Mount Desert island bio-labs

Salisbury Cove, Maine

  • Area: 20,000 sf

  • Cost: $5.6 million

Project Description:

This laboratory building provides three dedicated lab spaces and adjunct support plus a library/lounge space. The remaining programmed space houses offices, shared offices and a sequencing, data basing and analysis space. Building components special to this project include; high performance chemical fume hoods, energy efficient laboratory equipment, and isolation of heat generating laboratory equipment. The spaces are organized to provide required adjacencies as well as to limit circulation space creating an efficient layout. The plan seeks to provide density which shall help to mitigate the expense of long mechanical duct runs and utilities. Laboratories are stacked, and when possible, separated from office space allowing the mechanical system to be tailored specifically to the program it is serving.
